We've just added a page that sets out the usage statistics for the application. In the first six months, we served over 133,000 charts! Blimey. Many thanks to you all.

We've updated the algorithm to use a median value, rather than the arithmetic mean, when calculating track lengths. Hopefully, this will give a more realistic approximation of listening time, and stop those cases where an artist's figures are skewed by one extra-long or extra-short track on an album.

Big shout out to gadgetchannel who has written a very cool Greasemonkey script to integrate the time-based rankings directly into your last.fm user profile:

Many thanks to all those who have used this little app and given me your feedback. It's very much appreciated. A few quick updates:
- It can now generate normalised lists of top albums as well as artists.
- The addition of the ability to select whether you want to use your overall top artist/album listing from last.fm, or the list for the last 3, 6, or 12 months.
- The call to MusicBrainz "release" class now uses the "Official" releasetype rather than "Album". This should mean that soundtrack artists are properly represented in the data - but it does vastly increase the potential number of web services calls. We'll continue to monitor performance and keep fingers crossed.
- Added new & updates and help.
- Added artist search form to allow manual cache refresh for individual artists.
We are aware that the current algorithm (using arithmetic mean values for average track length) has some major shortcomings, and are looking at alternatives - many thanks for all your suggestions. We'll play with a few options, and then have to spend some time rebuilding the cache of over a hundred thousand albums. The matter is in hand, but will take a while to sort out.
